48hrs Feast of Fife | Day 1

Hello, Hello!! Today's post is all about the 48hrs Feast of Fife!

The Feast of Fife was organised by the Fife Council and the Fife Tourism board to show foodie bloggers what Fife has to offer in regards to Food and Drink - and my oh my, they have some great things on offer! Food Bloggers from around the country attended the two day event which started off at the five star location of Eden Mansion Hotel

Eden Mansion is a very plush hotel with an eccentric twist. It's designed beautifully from the grand staircase to the grounds. But I have to say my favourite room has to be the Gatsby Bar - it's dripped in Gold - so decadent. But on to the conference aspect of the weekend.

We were treated to a morning of getting to know all about some fife locals who are established in the food industry, starting with William Curley, Patissier Chocoatier (what a title that is). He told us all about his journey and how he came to being who he is today. We had a sample of his amazing flavours such as Piedmont Hazelnut, Juniper and Cassis and Japanese Black Vinegar - some great and usual flavours.

After the chocolate overdose we heard from Stephen Whitelaw who spoke all about embracing the digital age and Helen and Drew Mackenzie-Smith and how they are reinvigorating the birthplace of Whiskey with Lindores Abbey. It was great hearing about the different local businesses that are keeping Fife going strong.

After the Question and Answer with the speakers we headed into the Garden for some light ice cream from award winning, Janettas Gelateria. I had some of their Scottish Tablet and it was delicious - I could of had the entire tub! It was also a great time for getting to know some of the other food bloggers, travel writers and some organisers from Fife Tourism.

After the ice cream we headed into the Dining room where the tabels had been laid out with a gorgeous looking afternoon tea.

A table by the window - the best lighting obviously!

We had a selection of sandwiches, scones and Cakes all made in house with ingredients sourced from Local Producers.

After our morning at Eden Mansion we headed to our accommodation to get freshens up and ready for the evening.

Our evening was spent in the beautiful restaurant, The Newport, in Newport-on-Tay. This is where Master chef winner 2014, Jamie Scott cooks up a storm. Upon arrival we had drinks from Eden Mill and Kingsbarns Distillery in the Art Gallery that is on the ground floor of the restaurant again, a great time to mingle and take in some art.

After the networking we headed downstairs to where Jamie Scott gave us a Pre-Dinner cookery demo where he made and presented to us three on the five courses we were going to be having. It was lovely hearing Jamie speaking about what he does, he's so passionate that makes you invest your time in him. He spoke about where his food came from and how they keep it local.

Here is a small crate full of fruits, berries and herbs that were foraged in Fife.

We headed upstairs to find this as our view for the night, you could see the entire Tay Bridge and Dundee coastline - it really was spectacular. We took our seats still in awe of the view and then were presented with our Five Course 'Kingdom of Fife' tasting dinner.

First Starter, Goats Cheese decorated with edible flowers

Another starter, Crab rarebit on Toast

A beautiful Autumn salad, full of local produce, even blackberries.

First Main, Fresh Mackerel seared and presented with roasted tomatoes

To split up the meal, we were presented with some of the most flavoursome bread I have ever head. Here we have malted bread in treacle served with a dollop of creme friache butter.

Another main, two ways to have beef. On the left we have short rib - that just fell off of the bone. On the right we have smoked shoulder which was cooked in red wine, served with various onions.

The desert - this was full of flavour - Liquorice ice cream, plum and white chocolate jelly and a selection of local plums sprinkled with crushed popcorn.

It is safe to say that day one was full to the brim of food, flavour and amazing company.

Come back tomorrow to find out what we got up to on Day 2 of the 48hrs Feast of Fife.
